Farmhouse Residence

A long-time client requested that V Three Studios design a private residence that actively engages with the landscape of their family property in rural Missouri. Over the course of the design process, the concept of the residence evolved from a simple floor plan consisting of essential living spaces into an architectural expression of the owners’ connection to the surrounding area. 

The house’s three gabled forms rise organically from the hillside, alluding to the traditional vernacular barns common to the area. Oriented in an axial relationship to one another, the spaces between these forms become spacial links that intentionally maximize occupants’ views of the surrounding countryside. Owner-specified amenities such as an office/loft, large kitchen and living space, and multiple outdoor spaces are elegantly integrated into the program. Maintaining a sense of intimacy not common at this scale, the home strikes the perfect balance between modernity and familiarity.
