WIllis tower Transmitter Room
Chicago, Illinois
It was an honor for the V3 team to design a project on the 101st floor of the architectural marvel known as Chicago’s Willis Tower. Due to the building’s observation deck being renovated, the transmitter room serving two of Entercom Communications’ broadcast stations needed to be redesigned and rebuilt on a different floor. Working closely with the in-house engineers to understand the data connections and physical layouts, V3 designed a new layout that fit the equipment into its new confined space by utilizing the three dimensional area to its maximum potential.
In order to “Tetris” this radio equipment into its new location, V3 designers had to dive into the equipment list and incorporate the physical dimensions and connectivity requirements of every piece of equipment. Approaching this with an architectural mindset allowed the space to be visualized in 3D, ultimately delivering a more elegant and well-developed solution.
